Nominations are now open for the Harford County Education Foundation's Everyday Hero Award and the 2027 Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year!
We invite all families to nominate a teacher who exemplifies innovative instruction, inspires students, and gives tirelessly to the children in our community. Each school's official nominee will be invited to attend the Everyday Hero Awards dinner in November and to participate in the Teacher of the Year process, with the 2027 Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year named in April.

This week, students will begin learning about high school options. Mr. Muller, the 8th grade school counselor, will be visiting classrooms to provide information about Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) magnet programs. We encourage you to ask your student whether they are interested in attending or learning more about these high school opportunities.
Over the coming weeks, HCPS will host magnet school information sessions and open houses for both students and families. Information sessions will be held at various high schools throughout the county that house magnet programs. During these sessions, families will learn about all HCPS magnet programs, the application process, and important deadlines.
Mr. Muller will be spending the next several weeks meeting with students to review the available magnet programs and explain the application process. However, it is equally important for parents and guardians to understand the process as well. Attached, you will find a schedule of magnet school events throughout the county to help your family make informed decisions.
Please note the difference between the two event types:
Information Sessions: Provide an overview of all HCPS magnet programs and explain the application process.
Open Houses: Take place at individual magnet schools and focus specifically on that school's program and offerings.
We encourage families to attend at least one information session and to visit any open houses that interest them.
If you have questions about the magnet school application process, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Muller. We will continue sending reminders throughout the year regarding important deadlines. We also encourage you to visit the FMS website regularly for updates and additional information.
For Families Interested in Private Schools
If you are considering a private school for your student, please contact Mr. Muller for assistance with the recommendation process. To ensure deadlines are met and records are submitted properly, all recommendation requests must be coordinated through the counseling office. Families should not request recommendations directly from teachers.
Please note that private school records will not be sent until first-quarter grades have been finalized, as required by many private schools.

We were proud to welcome Dr. Mack and members of the Maryland State Board of Education to FAMS on Wednesday. We visited several classes, including one of Dr. Mack's former teachers when she was in high school!

September is National Deaf Awareness Month, a time to recognize the achievements, culture, and history of the Deaf and hard of hearing community. HCPS joins in honoring this observance and the contributions Deaf individuals have made throughout our society.
